i started putting the first grinder together today - i bought a vertical and a horizontal belt grinder from beaumont metal works a little while back. i had a 2hp 3 phase motor and a VFD that i intended to use with the vertical one, but the motor didn't have a flat mount to use the table that came with the kit.
instead of making a mount for it, i decided to use this old steel table i had pulled out of the dump years ago. i welded a plate to the side of the table and face mounted the motor underneath, which i think is a better use of real estate anyhow.
i still need to finish mounting everything and put some heavy duty feet or casters on the table, but got it mocked up enough to run today. i'm glad frankie advised me to run it off 220V, you can really lay into a thick piece of steel on the belt without bogging the motor down. i'm also going to have to make a cover for the front of the table, that thing throws grit all over the place when you use it.
